Munich, 10 October 2025 – With a visit to the space company Isar Aerospace in Munich, Minister President of Bavaria Dr. Markus Söder underlined the importance of space technology for Germany’s security and economic growth. Isar Aerospace and the Bavarian state government are pursuing the common goal of securing and expanding Europe’s access to space through sovereign launch capabilities.

Daniel Metzler, CEO and co-founder of Isar Aerospace, said: “The €35 billion investment in space defense capabilities announced by the federal government offers a historic opportunity to scale up industrial capacity in the space sector now. A significant portion of these funds must be invested in building launch capabilities – this is the only way to establish satellite networks. Isar Aerospace is ready to secure sovereign access to space for Germany, NATO, and its allies from Bavaria and to build a sustainable industry.”

Dr. Markus Söder, Minister President of Bavaria, said: “Bavaria is space-minded! We are fully committed to the space industry and start-ups. Both come together at rocket pioneer Isar Aerospace in Ottobrunn near Munich. The success story of our space program continues – and Isar Aerospace is playing a decisive role in writing it. Today, the upper stage of the orbital launch vehicle was presented. It will soon be on its way to the Andøya spaceport in Norway. Technology from Bavaria could soon make its way into space. We are Germany’s Space Valley: Europe’s largest faculty for aerospace is being established at the Technical University of Munich – and 550 companies and 65,000 employees now work in this sector in Bavaria. The future looks bright. With the Bavarian high-tech agenda, we are investing a total of six billion euros in research and science. Live long and prosper, Isar Aerospace!”
